The webinar aims to discuss the ongoing issues about equitable access to medicines and technologies including those related to COVID19. the international context, the push for the TRIPS Waiver and the need for international solidarity.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
We will be discussing overcoming barriers to medicines, vaccines, and medical tools for cancer, diabetes, HIV and TB, as well as COVID-19. This is even more important as the World Trade Organisation ' s TRIPS council meets on 30 April to discuss the proposal by South Africa and India, supported by over 100 countries, to waive patents on COVID-19 technologies

India and South Africa made a formal request to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for a waiver to allow countries to suspend all patents on any medicines, medical tools and devices during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a landmark step and we need to get our voice behind it so that more governments get on board to support this request and make it a reality. The success of the patent waiver request could be a real game-changer to put people's lives over profit and to provide governments with the necessary legal basis to ensure access for their population during the pandemic..jpg)
