MSF fundraisers raise funds & awareness in George for the second time since 2011

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) fundraisers raise funds & awareness on emergency medical relief work during Western Cape tour

A team of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) fundraisers will give shoppers in George, Western Cape a look of MSF’s work. The team will raise funds and awareness about Doctors Without Borders medical relief work around the world on a five day tour from 15 to 19 November.

“The MSF Travel Team has decided to come back to George for the second time since 2011, and we are really excited! The funds we raise during these travel teams are essential for our workhere in South Africa and in more than 60 countries. We rely almost solely from private donations, and even the smallest bit can help save lives” says Kelly Barlow, the MSF’s Southern Africa travel teams coordinator.

The team will be at the Garden Route Mall Charity Court interacting with shoppers and giving them information on MSF’s work around the world, MSF’s HIV and TB project in Khayelitsha, Western Cape where MSF provides testing and treatment for HIV and tuberculosis. In Kwa Zulu Natal, MSF has projects in Eshowe in Mbongolwane where we focus on HIV/Aids and TB as well. In Rustenburg MSF has a care centre that provides emergency medical and psychosocial care to victims of sexual violence in the mining area.

The team will also inform shoppers on how they can be part of MSF as fundraisers, volunteers, fieldworkers or supporters.

Why is this Ebola outbreak so different?
On May 15, 2026, the Democratic Republic of Congo's Ministry of Health officially declared an Ebola disease outbreak in the northeast of the country, where Doctors Without Borders (MSF) teams are operating. Since then, authorities have reported nearly 500 suspected cases and more than 130 deaths across multiple health zones. On the same day, Uganda announced the virus had crossed its borders. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus - rarer and one for which no vaccine or treatment has been approved yet. Here is what we know about the unfolding crisis in the DRC and Uganda.
