Doctors Without Borders (MSF) fundraisers raise funds & awareness on emergency medical relief work during Free State tour

2016-05-13

JOHANNESBURG - A five-member team of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) fundraisers will be visiting Bloemfontein and Welkom, in the Free State Province during May and June to raise funds and awareness about MSF’s emergency medical humanitarian work around the world.

“To fund our medical work and maintain our independence and neutrality in how we work, we rely on funds from private individuals. That is why we are calling on Free State residents to support us during our fundraising drive so our medical teams can continue saving lives around the world,” says Kelly Barlow, the MSF’s Southern Africa Travel Teams Co-ordinator.

While in the Free State, the fundraisers will visit four shopping malls in Bloemfontein and Welkom and interact with shoppers from 17 May to 4 June 2016.

Shoppers will learn how they can help MSF to provide healthcare services to survivors of sexual and gender based violence our recently opened clinic in Rustenburg and support our search, rescue and medical activities in the Mediterranean Sea which helps people forced to flee conflicts and war in Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Libya, Sudan and Yemen.

MSF Southern Africa undertakes fundraising outreach tours three times per year in various provinces, including the Free State, KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape where the organization does not have permanent fundraisers.

MSF works in more than 65 countries, including South Africa. The organisation also has projects in Khayelitsha in the Western Cape and in Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal where it works in close collaboration with local authorities to provide care to people living with HIV and tuberculosis.
